Fitz Water Wheels

I-X-L CONSTRUCTION

IXL Steel Overshoot Water Wheel has been a study for years, and is built on scientific principles by expert and experienced mechanics, with special tools. It is constructed with Steel Shaft; boxes rest on a cast base or pedestals, and are self adjusting. We now use roller-beating and chain oiling boxes, which reduce the friction, and add to the power.

The flanges or hubs are made of cast iron, with dove-tailed sockets to receive the arms, and are keyed on to the shaft. To these flanges are bolted the arms, which are flat bar steel and cast iron.

On the outer edge of these arms is bolted the rim or buckets. These are built in the shops in sections, with rim, buckets and soling all firmly riveted together by compressed air, and then bolted to the arms.

The buckets are made with a peculiar curved formation, so as to retain the water 'until the power is totally exhausted.

The sheet steel rim is the best flanged steel, and is flanged cold; we use the very best rivets and bolts that we can procure and by experienced workmen, construct a wheel that will last a life time.

Gearing to connect mill can be on rim, or shaft, but we prefer to gear by segment gear bolted to arms of the wheel.

These wheels are all fit together in the shops. Every part is plainly numbered so that there can be no difficulty in erecting. We can build any size wheels for mule-back transportation.

Every I-X-L Steel Overshoot Water Wheel is supplied with our improved planed iron gate, which is positively water-tight. This overcomes all trouble arising from leaky gates, etc. We call especial attention to this for it is frequently asserted that it is impossible to make an easy working gate that will shut the water off. Our gate meets both these requirements completely.

We will contract for wheels delivered and put in mill, in any cases doing everything excepting the stone or foundation work.

Parties ordering or inquiring about wheels should carefully state what kind and the size of wheel they are now using, its performance under different heads and gate and during the entire year, how much water they have, what they want. In brief, giving full particulars.

Particular attention is given to export orders. Correspondence will be carried on in French, German or Spanish, if desire by our customers.

We always use our best efforts to fill orders promptly, and unless delayed by the steel mills where we have our steel made expressly for these wheels, can ship the wheel in a very short time after the receipt of the order.
